Politics. We hear that word every day. It is something that drives our every day actions. It affects our country as a whole in what we get to do in our lives and what freedoms we like to express. This is an election year so major decisions are about to be made. How will our country be run? Who will run our country? Where do I stand on different issues? Here in this article we get a look at how some of the Wyandotte High students think about some of the more important issues. I interviewed 6 Wyandotte high school Students on some issues that seemed to make a bigger impact.

Should abortions remain a legal option in America?

Wyona Tobler said “some kids. They be real young and be havin babies and they don’t want them”

Sydney Carter “I don’t think that they shouldn’t remain legal cause if you don’t want no babies you shouldn’t do what it takes to have one.

Antoinette Scott and Shakela Bailey both took the position of not clear because they it was Gods creation but the child could be born with certain social defects. Like being a “crack baby”

Hank Sinclair “I think it should because it’s a decision for the people having kids not the governments”

Tabitha Morris said “No Way! Because you are killing humans when you do it. That’s not cool. ”

Should the Death penalty remain a legal option in America?

The issue was pretty well divided since we come back to the Gods creation argument. But then it was raised that there are people out there who do reall bad things in the world and there should be a punishment for such crimes. “It should. For the fact that I believe someone cold hearted enough to take anothers life shouldn’t have the right to live.” Said Hank Sinclair when asked the question


Are more federal regulations on guns and ammunition needed?

Many had the agreement that there should be more federal regulations due to the fact that the guns are getting on the streets and killing people. but Tabitha Morris said “No not really. I don’t think they do, I think its just a waste of time. ”

This is a very good question that impacts many people in Wyandotte High School. When I interviewed Wyona, Sydney, Antoinette, and Shakela there was some discretion as to which race class that was being referred to. After that little clarification all four were able to give a clear answer as to their opinion on this subject. As all of you can see that the issue can go both ways .


Was it a mistake to attack Iraq in 2003?

All believed that that it was a mistake to attack Iraq in 2003 feeling that it was Bush’s mission to finish his fathers work.


Has the no child left behind act been effective in improving public education?

Many brought up both sides of the issue including mentioning Benchmarks, which is a big part of the no child left behind act.

When making the descision many mentioned the use it don’t abuse it viewpoint which is why the issue is always heavily debated.


Should interrogation techniques that some consider torture such as waterboarding be a legal option?

This is a new subject that has been brought up because of the CIA “losing” tapes of using waterboarding on suspected terrorists. It was going to go before the supreme court as to rule whether foul play has occurred.
